Adopt a teacher at Grace School

Introduction
Grace School developed out of the unique needs of Grace Village Children. They attended a local private school in town, where there was no way to monitor the content of classes, some of the more troubled children were playing truent with related consequences at home.

The school has been great! Six teachers working within a safe environment for the children.

The School
First and Second Grade has one teacher who double class teaches and has done some rather remarkable work with these children, one who had repeated 1st grade three times is finally learning to read and count! The smaller class, the more personal attention and closeness to home has definitely created for these little children a secure place to learn.

Third and Fourth Grade has one teacher also double class teaching, this has been more of a challenge as these are children who have not grown up with us, but bring with them street sense, making them more troublesome, but with firm handling even these are being strengthened and they are learning!

In Grades five through eighth we have a mixed bag of exceedingly bright children and those who due to circumstances (too long out of school, too long without regular meals, too long with love and affection) has left them slow as learners. For these classes we have four subject teachers:

• Maths
• Chemistry and Physics
• Social Science and Civics
• Languages – Amharic, Tigrinha and English

The Headmaster
This first year has made us realise that the need of a headmaster is essential, someone older and wiser to lead the teachers who are as a whole quite young. We therefore plan to add a headmaster for the year 2010 – 2011.
